At its Annual General Meeting held on Saturday, January 8, 2005. the Oshawa City and District Softball Association (OC&DSA)elected their Executive for the 2005 season. Taking over as President from Ken Leonard, is Jim Spiers. Ken provided strong leadership and innovation to the league in various capacities over the past 15 years and is stepping down for a well deserved return to normal life. Jim served as Third Vice President for the past year and was involved in organizing the Annual All Star Game and League Championship playoff for the past two years. Jim was born and raised in Oshawa and has been involved in fastball for over 45 years and continues to play at a competitive level. Sylvia Ryan is returning as the Secretary and also has the duties of the Treasurer added to her to-do list. She is taking over the Treasurer duties from Mr. Keith Fleming who has been in this position for the past fifteen years. Keith is also a past president of the OC&DSA.

In addition, Sylvia is the team Manager for the Claremont Rebels of the OC&DSA and Vice President of the Canadian Masters Fast pitch Championship. John Sharpe Jr. is new to the Executive and will assume the duties of the First Vice President. John is a top level Intermediate pitcher and splits his time between the Claremont Rebels and the Orr Park Knights of Orrville Ohio. The Orr Park Knights are an International Softball Congress (ISC)l level II team. John has been a champion at the provincial level in midget and junior men's competitions. He has also won two silver medals at the Canadian Junior Men's National Championships in 1995 and here in Oshawa in 1997. Mal Swift is returning as Second Vice President. Mal toiled for many years in the Dieppe and Beaches leagues in Toronto as a top level pitcher. He also acts as a convener at the ISC II championship tournaments. Mal coaches the Whitby Eagles of the OC&DSA and is Vice president of the Durham Region Umpires Membership (DRUM). Mal continues to pass on his knowledge of pitching and fastball in general to young people in the area through his "Spin Masters Pitching/Catching School". Scott Goff is also new to the Executive and will take on the responsibilities of Third Vice President. Scott is a member of the Claremont Rebels of the OC&DSA and was also a member of the Oshawa Double B Sports Club Midget and Junior Men's provincial champions as well as the Junior Men's silver medal winners at the Canadian National Championships in 1995 and here in Oshawa in 1997. The OC&DSA Executive would like to encourage anyone interested in fastball to watch for upcoming announcements of league games that will be played in Oshawa and the surrounding area. Local teams involved in the league for 2005 include the Oshawa Double B Midgets, Oshawa Double B Juniors, Oshawa Ravens, Whitby Eagles and Port Perry Gamblers. Some of the top fastball talent in the province, as well as Canada, could be seen at Durham Fields, Brooklin Memorial Park or Port Perry this summer.
